Abuse Spotlighted In the News

Violence Against Women (and men)Feb 12, '09 10:15 AM
for everyone
I just read this article:

Understanding the Roots of Violence Against Women in the Pacific

(clickable link)

I agree that there needs to be a change in the way men perceive and treat women.  This does not excuse the fact that some men are treated in the same or similar manner by some women.

It seems that women who have faced violence by men in their past tend to treat a man who treats them well with the same kind of abuse with which they were treated.  In their eyes, it seems like justice because some man treated them poorly in the past.  All they are doing is propagating the violence.

The subject shouldn't be solely on the treatment of women, but treatment of people in general.  Abuse is abuse whether it happens to a man or a woman.

Politicians and special interests have used divisions for ages to sway people.  Race against race, country against country, gender against gender, and religion against religion are all forms of manipulation.  We need to drop these divisions and get people thinking about and treating each other with equal respect.

Love, Hope, Peace, & Christ Is With Us All,

"ABUSE HAPPENS TO ALL PEOPLE"

kitchen, window

Out the Window

Out the window
She stared once more
From the safety
Of the kitchen door
Everything neat
And orderly
The last time this kitchen
She'd ever see

Thankless hours
She'd spent travailing
Long, hot hours of
Cooking and baking
Nary kind word
Was ever mentioned
By the one from whom
She longed for attention

Hours of waiting
For him to come home
He always came late
From the places he'd roam
A slap to the face
If she dared to ask why
Perhaps a good beating
If it made her cry

She'd always been there
To fill his deep need
But he never cared
When he made her bleed
It was his right
Women just slaves
Buy 'em a present
And keep 'em in caves

One last glance
Around the room
To be certain
She'd put up the broom
With one deep breath
And one deep sigh
She turned around
And left the guy

In the End

muslim, slave

He had promised her the moon, the sun and the stars
He told her that if she went with him to his country
She would be treated like a princess
He only beat her here because people made fun of him
And were prejudiced against his type
In his land, she would have money and jewels
She would get to teach the village children
Here he had to keep her confined and hidden
To keep her away from the evils of the world
He told her that he was the only one who could protect her
From the things of the past she so feared
He degraded her, abused her, and humiliated her
But there it would be SO different
In spite of her scholastic achievements and multiple degrees
She believed these lies
She turned away from one and ones who loved her
To follow this unbelievable dream
Was it worth it
In the end?
