The Sword of the Spirit Awards

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12

This page is dedicated to musicians and artists of all types who have shown themselves to have promoted the causes of Love, Hope, Peace, Freedom, and or Liberty in some outstanding way.  If you know of an artist or musician who you feel should be on this page, please do not hesitate to let me know.  You may contact me at caljen386@yahoo.com.

After I helped bring a fellow Christian back from the world of crack addiction, he gave me a Glamdring sword, one of his prized posessions.  We dubbed it the "Sword of the Spirit."  I would now like to share this honor with artists and musicians worldwide who help bring love, peace, and hope to the world.

You might wonder why I am so supportive of Kenny Loggins. He and his wife, Eva, wrote a song that kept me from comitting suicide after my first wife and I divorced over her sleeping with my best friend.

In 1978, my wife abandoned my 6 month old son and I to run around sleeping with both men and women. I was sitting at home, my son at my moms because I was supposed to go to work, with a gun to my head. Before I took my life, I decided to play the Nightwatch album which I had purchased earlier that day and had not opened yet. I thought to myself, "Well I bought it. I may as well listen to it once before I die."

I put the album on and listened to side 1. I didn't feel any different. I turned the record over and started listening to side 2. "Whenever I Call You Friend" played, and that made me feel a little better, but not enough for me to take the gun out of my mouth. Next, a little song called, "Wait a Little While" came on. The triangle in the beginning intrigued me as I hadn't heard one used in ages. The lyrics began,

Here's a sweet september morning, there's the sense of autumn on the rise
He steps into the wind and sadly sighs
"why does it always seem to be, there's a cold december wind in front of me?"

Boy, did I know how THAT felt! I could relate! The song went on,

The more he fills his empty evenings
The less he feels that there's a chance to find
Something that can bring a peace of mind
Is there a place where you can go?
A little something you should know to turn the tide to your favor?

I certainly related to that, also, now feeling abandoned and all alone, having just lost my wife AND my "best friend." So, what "marvelous revelation" could some rock star sing that would really give me any hope? I listened skeptically. ..

Wait a little while to welcome what you're after
Give it the time to find its way to you
And soon as you no longer try, you'll turn and find it standing by your side
Come and get it, when you let it, it'll come to you

Dang! A rock star DID have a marvelous revelation! I took the gun out of my mouth and decided to, "Wait a Little While." Good things DID come to me after that.

This song saved my life. In addition, I have used it and this story to save many lives of those who were wanting to commit suicide, have helped people who were having relationship problems, helped people who were having financial problems, and much more.

I was so fascinated by the results, that I kept digging to try to find what inspired this song. I hadn't paid attention to the credits and had attributed it just to Kenny Loggins until about a year ago when I found out that Eva (Ein) Loggins had written the lyrics. "That was why I couldn't find out what inspired the song," I reasoned.

A couple months ago, I finally got this message on the Kenny Loggins website from CoolRockinDaddy:

It was inspired by the parts of the New Testament that says the trees, the birds, and nature, they never worry about what are they gonna eat or how are they gonna survive, the earth just takes care of them.
He said it was one of the most critized songs during the late 70's. The critics felt it was lyrically naive. He also said "I guess that's how they would interpret the New Testament."

I assume this was Matthew 6:24-34 which states:

Matthew 6:24-34 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society

24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[a]?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

It's sort of a shame that there are so many fans on the Loggins board who hate Christ. I can sort of understand after the example that the Christian Right and George "Jesus" Bush set, but they do not not exemplify the life of Christ; furthermore, those who attack people who simply express their ideas about how a song relates to their Christian belief are no better than George and the Christian Right. They are persecuting people for not having their belief system just as the Christian Right persecutes others for not prescribing to THEIR belief system. I can see that non-Christians can be just as hypocritical as the Christian Right. It's a sad state.

Love, Hope, Peace, & Christ Be With You,

Cal-el
