  • Cal Jennings on the Peace Research Institute

Calvin Jennings shows that strong independent streak that insists upon doing the right thing that made the United States of America a great country. Calvin Jennings proves that being peaceful and caring for animals does not require a meeting or a movement. He just does it because it seems to him to be the obvious thing to do.

That seems to be the hardest thing to understand.

It all seems so straightforward to many of us. Then there are those other people, too many of whom seem to end up as politicians, who come up with all sorts of secret or confusing justifications for war and violence.

We The People elected our representatives with a clear mandate. And our representatives have ignored that mandate.

Over and over, good people like Calvin Jennings have called for peace and harmony with our environment and still it seems the good people, We The People of the United States of America, have not been heard.

Or perhaps you have just been ignored.

That is why “A Peaceful Solution” needs to be performed at every occasion. That is why videos of “A Peaceful Solution” need to be shown everywhere.

And that is why we will write up everyone who performs it or makes a video with it, like Calvin Jennings did.

    * * * * Artist’s Statement * * * * *

I am passionate about creating peace because that’s what our creator intended. Besides, it’s a decent thing to do. I have been working for peace all of my life, and though it took different forms at times, I always felt the call of the Spirit.

I first became interested in the environment growing up and being taught to hunt. They laughed at me when I would care for an injured animal I ran across, which just inspired me to care for animals all the more.

My dog gave its life protecting me from a violent alcoholic dad when I was five.

My pet dogs have saved my life twice after that incident.

When I was old enough to get out on my own, I maintained a strong bond with all animals, and rarely had problems with wild animals coming up to me in a friendly manner.

I lived in an area where people dropped off animals frequently, and I would find them, nurse them back to health, and give them a good home.

I despise people who hunt for trophy, especially when they take antlers and discard the meat that at least could have gone to feed someone hungry.

I got a job working for Amoco Oil and got to see up close what they were doing to the environment. I thought I could help there by thinking of ways that would protect the environment while increasing profit.

I learned how the oil companies buy up patents and destroy them anytime it would provide a cheaper source of energy, had to listen to Amoco Oil’s CEO brag about how he caused the Iran hostage crisis because they “screwed” the Iranians, and grew to despise what I was doing more and more each day.

I longed to work with music.

God/Christ has always been number 1 in my life, and will continue to be until my Spirit leaves this plane.

    I’m a Son of God, a Peacemaker.

I love people who are aware of the environment and the Spirit, no matter what they call God. When the animals can no longer survive on this earth, how are we to?

If we don’t care for one another, be compassionate toward one another, stop being violent toward one another, stop trying to get richer than one another, what’s the use of living anyway?

Art is the most peaceful weapon I can think of,
whether it is visual or musical.

It’s time to correct the problems we’ve created, and prevent those who want to continue their evil from destroying everything.

Love, Hope, Peace, & Christ Be With You,

I respect everyone who has participated by either producing their own version of “A Peaceful Solution” or making a video with one of the soundtracks. But I have singled Cal out because his lack of pretension does not stop him from getting out and letting others know how he feels.

This is exactly what Willie Nelson, Jay and I hope for. We hope that more people will stand up and let their friends and neighbors know that they too wish for a peaceful resolution.

And then we hope they each take that one step from wishing into action.

Calvin Jennings proves it does not need to be a big action. It does not have to include 100s of people marching in the streets. It does not have to risk arrest in civil disobedience.

It can be as simple as helping out a hurt and confused animal or letting someone know that they are not forgotten.

    * * * * Artist’s Statement * * * * *

I’ve worked on original music and arrangements on the music of others to promote peaceful work for years now.

I love Willie’s clean, renewable energy idea, and think we should quit thinking about how we can get more than other countries.

All countries should realize that we are all human beings, and we should try to help one another.

    Stop the hate.

Who cares what race someone else is? Hey, they didn’t choose it. People need to be tolerant of others, yes, even of Christians! LOL We all should have the right to perceive God from our own perspective.

Instead of thinking, “look how much better they have it than I have,” how about thinking, “How can I help that person?”

I was disabled and wheelchair ridden, but quit feeling sorry for myself and thought, “What can I do for God?”

I remembered that I had some musical talent, and started playing for God in the privacy of my home.

I offered to play my cornet for New Years Eve at our church, and the group that regularly performed for nursing homes in the area asked me to join them, which I gladly did.

Helping those poor, mostly elderly people who have nothing and had no decent entertainment options made my day each time.

We even let people come who had other talents, such as listening, helping people to hold the lyrics to the hymns they sang, getting them a cup of coffee, anything.

People get abandoned in nursing homes like dogs get abandoned in vacant lots. Their own relatives won’t even go visit them. One kind act means more to them than you will ever know.

God rewarded me by healing me enough to walk without the use of a wheelchair or canes.

Love, Hope, Peace, & Christ Be With You,

    Cal-el & Swissy
